The purple hue of our Brazilian Purple Clay is due to its rich magnesium content. This mineral is reputed to provide anti-aging benefits as it helps ensure healthy skin cells.

This rejuvenating clay is perfect for all skin types but is especially popular with dry & mature skin as it helps nourish and detoxify, eliminating wastes such as impurities, oils, and dead skin cells so that your skin can look healthy and refreshed.

Why it works

Purple clay is a natural source of magnesium, copper, zinc, selenium and many more minerals. It is said to be excellent for re-mineralising the skin and helping with oil control as it can absorb both water and oil-based substances. It helps with the removal of dirt and impurities from the skin's pores and is said to have skin balancing properties.

Brazilian clays are said to have one of the highest mineral potentials in the world thanks to the rich environmental conditions they have been form in, namely a mixture of ancient mountainous ranges and deep sedimentary basins. The largest basin, accounting for 40% of the whole South American continent, is drained by the Amazon and its tributaries with the Parana system, covering 14.5% of Brazil being another basin of significance. It is from within these basins that our Brazilian clay is harvested.

Brazil's rich soil diversity shows traces of volcanic ash and minerals dating back thousands of years and enriching the clay with minerals such as iron oxides, magnesium salts and calcium among others. These minerals are just part of what makes Brazilian clay so fantastic for clay masks and a range of skincare applications.

How to use

Use wooden, ceramic or glass bowl and a wooden spoon for mixing.
(IMPORTANT, all items should be non-metallic)

Mix one tablespoon of clay with one tablespoon of water to make a smooth paste. General rule is equal parts of clay to water.

Every clay has its own character and qualities. If the mixture is too thin, add more clay, if too thick, add more water.

Hydrate clay with water. Using spring water, floral hydrosol or pure oil and mix into a creamy consistency.

For best results steam clean the face to open pores before applying.

Leave clay on for approximately 10 minutes. Less time for dry skin and more time for oily skin.

Rinse off with lukewarm water and pat dry. Spray with floral hydrosol and use oil or moisturiser to finish.

We recommend using 2-3 times a week if you have oily skin and 1-2 times a week for everyone else.

Face Mask: For best results use a brush to evenly cover all the skin on your face, forehead, including around and under the nose, and upper part of the neck avoiding the eye area. Apply a medium to thick layer.

Leave on to dry to allow full absorption of clay minerals, and extraction of any impurities.

Dry Skin Treatment: To the mixture add a few drops of natural oil, apply the paste on the dry areas, knees, elbows, heels. Leave it on for 10-20 mins. The clay can be applied anywhere on your body to combat dryness and flaking and instantly soften and moisturize the skin.

Body Mask: Apply mixture to the body, leave for 15-20 mins.

How does a clay mask work?

Clay is naturally negatively charged this gives clay the ability to remove chemicals and heavy metals from your skin. While drying, clay also adsorbs impurities like dirt, excess oils, dead skin cells from your pores. Scientifically, this process is called cation exchange and adsorption.

Are clay masks good for sensitive skin?

Sensitive skin ongoing conditions like eczema and rosacea can benefit from integrating a clay mask once a week into their routine. If you have sensitive skin that has often experiences reactions to some ingredients, clay masks are a great option. Especially a pure dry clay mask that you mix yourself, so you know there’s no preservatives other ingredients hiding in your mask.

Can I use a clay mask if I have dry skin?

Clay masks are effective for removing and absorbing impurities from your skin. Just because you have dry skin doesn’t mean your skin doesn’t need a thorough cleansing. For dry skin, choose a clay like Kaolin Blanche or Lava Nude clay, that has smaller expansion capabilities. Add oils to your clay mask to add a moisturizing agent. With dry skin, don’t leave the clay mask on for as long. Follow guidelines for the clays.

Can you use a clay mask every day?

Depends on the type of clay. You can use kaolin clay every day, even as your cleanser. However, you should use the other clays for face or body masks 1-2 times a week on normal to oily skin, excessively oily skin, use 3 times week.
