Tulsi also known as Holy Basil has been used for thousands of years for its therapeutic powers, it is a richly aromatic herb in the basil family. This hydrosol is delightfully pleasing to the senses, with a mildly spicy and herbaceous aroma. This highly venerated herb is favoured in Ayurvedic practices and energetically, it is cleansing and encourages a calm state of mind. Helps combat many skin disorders and promotes healthier skin.

What it is

These simple, gentle yet powerful plant waters have been used for millennia to bring harmony and serenity to skin and spirit. Daily use of a hydrosol tones hydrates and plumps skin while balancing pH and delivering therapeutic compounds from the plant. Hydrosols are distilled botanical extracts. Like essential oils, hydrosols are made by distilling fresh plant material - leaves, flowers, rhizomes, fruits, seeds, etc- a process that captures the pure aromatic “waters” of the plant.

They are gentler and more delicately scented than essential oils and can be directly applied to skin without first diluting them. These are pure plant and flower essences, mentally refreshing and spiritually uplifting.

Why it works

Holy basil is anti-inflammatory, helps in stress reduction, and anti-anxiety, also high in antioxidants and helps your body detox. Holy Basil has a high amount of eugenol, the same active ingredient as cloves and is used to help combat many skin disorders, including acne. Tulsi has also been tested and proven to be beneficial in protecting the body and skin from the effects of radiation.

This aromatic skin tonic is a colloidal suspension of plant acids, minerals, microparticles of essential oil, and other water-soluble compounds found in Ocimum tenuiflorum. The potent energetic and therapeutic properties of Tulsi (Holy Basil) are concentrated in this pure, undiluted hydrosol.

As they are naturally acidic, hydrosols help to balance the pH of the skin, regulate oil production, and clear problematic or irritated skin. This herbal solution also contains water from the plant itself, along with the elemental essence and life force of the plant.

FAQ

What is a hydrosol?

Known by many names including floral waters, plant waters, and hydrolats. Hydrosols are the pure, natural waters that are produced during the steam or hydro distillation of plant materials such as flowers, leaves, needles and twigs, resins, roots, seeds, and woods. They are produced during the same distillation process that also extracts the essential oils. Essential oils are the highly concentrated aromatic extracts that contain the oil soluble components of the plant. Hydrosol contains all the water-soluble components of the plant's essence. They are safe and gentle for all ages and for those with sensitive skin offering subtle aromatherapy and therapeutic benefits.

What are the benefits of Hydrosols?

The distillation process transforms fresh plant material into a therapeutic water that captures phytochemicals, antioxidants, plant acids, plant oils. The outcome are hydrosols which are much gentler than an essential oil, making it safe to spray directly onto skin without dilution. Each hydrosol carries its own unique benefits to the skin that can include nourishment, hydration, restoration and soothing, anti-inflammatory and/or anti-bacterial properties, and much more. Hydrosols are particularly praised for their benefits to our skin. Suggested usage can be viewed on the product pages.

Do you use preservatives?

No, our hydrosols do not have added preservatives, they are all 100% steam distilled plant matter. There are no hidden ingredients, every ingredient contained is listed on the product page and packaging. You can increase the longevity of your hydrosol by storing the bottle in the fridge or in a cool, dark cupboard away from heat and light. Many hydrosols will last 1-2 years in a fridge. Hydrosols kept on the shelf, or in a car or bag should be used within six months of purchase.

Are your hydrosols organic?

Yes, we are committed to producing exceptionally good quality hydrosols and fastidious about how the plants are grown and where they come from. We use certified organic farms using traditional slow-distilled method in copper alembic. Our hydrosols are produced in very small batches to ensure a premium pure quality. Hydrosols are special impressions of the plants during a moment in time when they were harvested. Each batch is characteristically unique like a fingerprint. The growing environment - amount of rain or sunlight and the soil condition, the harvest - plant parts and time during its growing cycle it was harvested, make each distillation a work of art.

Are your hydrosols safe to use during pregnancy?

While there are trace amounts of naturally occurring essential oils in our hydrosols that are extracted in the distillation process, hydrosols are significantly less potent than their essential oil counterparts. They contain water soluble constituents that are not present in essential oils. For this reason, as well as differences in the distillation process, they are a more balanced, subtler product. Most hydrosols are considered safe to use, if you want to be extra cautious you may consider avoiding use of it during pregnancy.
